Featured Presentation: CyberPatriot competition
In September of 2012 Tim Smith began his role coaching teams in CypberPatriot – The National Youth Cyber Education Program. Beverly High School’s JROTC CyberPatriot team has been National Semifinalists 5 times and 2nd place in the Massachusetts All Service Division 5 times. CyberPatriot is a competition in cyber defense. CyberPatriot was established by the Air Force Association. The Northrop Grumman Foundation is the Presenting Sponsor for CyberPatriot X. He will be accompanied by members of his CyberPatriot team and on of the team mentors, Mr. Jim Wheeler.
About the Speaker
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Thomas Smith is a retired Marine who is currently employed as the Senior Marine Instructor for Beverly High School’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). He was an avionics technician and crew chief on CH-46E helicopters for 14 ½ years working his way through the enlisted ranks up to Gunnery Sergeant. He participated in humanitarian assistance missions in Kauai after hurricane Iniki and in East Timor after civil unrest. He was then promoted to Warrant Officer in March 2003 and served as an Avionics Officer.
As an Avionics Officer he did tours of duty in six different aviation squadrons over the last eight years of his Marine Corps career. This included two tours to Iraq. He was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 3 in August 2007 and retired from the Marine Corps on October 1st, 2011. He has been working as a JROTC Instructor at Beverly High School since August 2011.
