Abstract

Mettle Fatigue: VW's Single Point of Failure Ethics

Mettle Fatigue: VW's Single Point of Failure Ethics, by Roland Trope and Eugene Ressler, IEEE Security and Privacy, January/February 2016, detailed the events surrounding VW's software for defeating the EPA emissions testing. It then discusses the ethical culture that allowed this to happen.

The talk will summarize the paper. Afterword, there will be a discussion on what these events mean for ethical cultures in other software development groups.
